Chemical Container Blow Molding Machines

KSY extrusion blow molding machines produce jerry cans, stackable drums and agrochemical bottles from 100 ml to 25 L in HDPE, with multi-layer barrier options for solvents and pesticides.

Containers

Chemical containers made by extrusion blow molding

Chemical packaging has to survive stacking, drop tests and long contact with aggressive contents, so wall thickness distribution matters more than cycle time.

Typical containers

  • Jerry cans from 5 to 25 L
  • Stackable drums for industrial chemicals
  • Lubricant and engine oil bottles, 1 to 6 L
  • Pesticide and agrochemical bottles with barrier layers
  • Bleach, acid and solvent containers

What matters in production

  • Stress-crack resistance: high molecular weight HDPE grades processed at stable melt temperature
  • Wall control: parison programming puts material into corners, handles and the base
  • Top-load strength: stackable containers need even shoulders and ribs
  • Barrier: EVOH or PA layers stop solvent permeation
  • Clamping force: large molds need rigid, evenly loaded platens
Machine selection

Blow molding machines for chemical containers

Size the machine by container volume and wall thickness. Thick-walled drums need more plasticizing capacity than thin bottles of the same volume.

Dangerous goods: containers for regulated chemicals are tested for drop, stacking and leakproofness. Tell us the required test standard so wall thickness and mold design are set accordingly.

Auxiliary equipment for a chemical container line

Leak testing is standard for liquid chemical containers. Automatic packing suits regular bottles; drums above 5 L are normally palletized by hand or robot.

Bottle leak testing machine

Pressure-decay testing catches pinholes and weak pinch-off welds before bottles are packed. Best suited to bottles that travel stably on a conveyor.

Carries bottles from the machine to downstream stations and returns flash to the crusher for recycling.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What machine makes plastic jerry cans?

Jerry cans are made on extrusion blow molding machines. KSY85 and KSY95 produce 10 to 12 L jerry cans, and KSY105 and KSY120 produce 15 to 25 L cans and drums.

Which plastic is used for chemical drums and jerry cans?

High-density polyethylene is the standard material because it resists most acids, alkalis and surfactants and has high impact strength. Solvents and pesticides usually need a multi-layer wall with an EVOH or PA barrier.

Why do pesticide bottles need multi-layer co-extrusion?

Many agrochemicals contain solvents that permeate through single-layer HDPE. A 3 to 5 layer wall with an EVOH or PA barrier layer stops permeation and protects shelf life.

Need a jerry can or drum blow molding machine?

Send KSY your container volume, weight and required test standard. We will size the extruder, die head and clamping unit.
