Pharmaceutical Bottle Blow Molding Machines

KSY small extrusion blow molding machines produce medicine bottles, eye-drop vials and reagent containers from 5 ml to 2 L in HDPE, PP and LDPE, with stable neck dimensions and repeatable bottle weight.

Containers

Pharmaceutical containers made by extrusion blow molding

Small-volume pharmaceutical packaging depends on consistent dimensions, because closures, droppers and induction seals leave little tolerance.

Typical containers

  • Tablet and capsule bottles in HDPE
  • Eye-drop and nasal-drop vials in LDPE
  • Syrup and oral liquid bottles
  • Reagent and laboratory bottles
  • Disinfectant and sanitizer bottles

What matters in production

  • Neck accuracy: calibrated necks so child-resistant caps and induction seals close reliably
  • Weight consistency: stable plasticizing and parison control from shot to shot
  • Clean operation: enclosed hopper feeding and oil-free product areas
  • Parameter control: password-protected recipes on the PLC
  • Barrier: EVOH or PA layers for oxygen-sensitive products
Machine selection

Blow molding machines for pharmaceutical bottles

Most pharmaceutical bottles are small, so output is raised with multi-cavity tooling.

Materials

Resins used for pharmaceutical bottles

See processing notes in the blow molding materials guide.

HDPETablet and capsule bottles
PPHot-fill and sterilizable bottles
LDPESqueezable dropper vials
EVOHOxygen barrier layer
PABarrier and solvent resistance
Resin grade: pharmaceutical packaging uses medical or pharmacopoeia-compliant resin grades. The machine processes these with the same screw as standard HDPE and PP.

Auxiliary equipment for a pharmaceutical bottle line

Neck trimming gives the flat sealing surface that induction seals need. Leak testing is used for bottles large enough to run stably on a conveyor.

Neck trimming machine

Removes neck flash and the dome left by blow-pin calibration on round bottles, leaving a flat, clean sealing surface.

Bottle leak testing machine

Pressure-decay testing catches pinholes and weak pinch-off welds before bottles are packed. Best suited to bottles that travel stably on a conveyor.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What machine is used to make plastic medicine bottles?

HDPE and PP medicine bottles are made on small extrusion blow molding machines. KSY45 and KSY50 produce containers from 5 ml to 2 L and can run multi-cavity molds for small bottles.

Which plastic is used for pharmaceutical bottles?

HDPE is used for most tablet and capsule bottles, PP for hot-fill or sterilizable bottles, and LDPE for squeezable dropper vials. Barrier bottles add an EVOH or PA layer by co-extrusion.

How is neck quality controlled on pharmaceutical bottles?

The neck is calibrated by the blow pin during molding, then a neck trimming machine removes the remaining flash to leave a flat sealing surface for caps and induction seals.

Planning a pharmaceutical bottle project?

Send KSY your bottle drawing, resin grade and annual volume. We will recommend the machine model and cavity count.
